Day 14 - Basic Red Lip

Red lips give a classic and sophisticated effect to any makeup look. I have created  step-by step instructions so you can create your own basic red lip.

You will need:

  • Red lipstick ( I used a red with blue undertones)
  • A red lip liner similar to the colour of the lipstick
  • Lip balm
  • Concealer
  • Illuminator
  • Lip gloss (optional)
Clockise from Top.

Inika Lip Whip in Berry
Lemon Myrtle Lip Balm from Rainforest Remedies
Colour Theory Lip Liner in Red-y Steady go
Colour Theory Lipstick in Show Stopper
Elf Under Eye Concealer and Highlighter.

Lets Get Started

Firstly apply a moisturising lip balm
Line lips making a cupids bow if you have oval lips like me
or use the lip shape chart to learn how to line your lips for your lip shape.

Fill in the lips with the red liner using short careful strokes

Apply lipstick. I just used it straight from the stick. Start on the middle of the top lip following the lip liner working toards the corner of the lips. Then apply lipstick to the bottom lip starting in the middle and firmly sweep lipstick to each corner of the bottom lip.

Mush lips together so that the lipstick evens out

Apply concealer around the lips, this will prevent the lipstick from bleeding. Blend in well.
Apply highlighter to the cupids bow.

If you wish dab a bit of lip gloss in the middle of the top and bottom lip to give it extra shine.

Easy! A gorgeous red lip!

Day 13 - Cool or Warm Colours

Have you ever put on a green top and felt a bit Blah? Have you ever put on a top a similar colour and looked and felt fabulous? Perhaps the answer is not the colour but the tone of the top. Is it a cool or warm undertone and which suits you best?

If You Are a Cool

Your veins in your wrist will look blue
You will look best in silver jewellery
Sometimes if you burn in the sun this means you have a cool undertone
Your skin 'pops' and looks brighter next to white

If your are a warm

Your veins in your wrist will look green
You look best in gold jewellery
You tan better in the sun.
Your complexion looks sallow and dull next to white but much better next to Ivory.

Some people have a neutral under tone and suit almost everything.
If you see green and blue veins you have a neutral under tone,
If you suit gold and silver jewellery, you have a neutral undertone.

Celebrities cool or warm?

Cool Tones on Warm Skin

Cool jewel tones on a warm undertone can make the complexion look sallow.

Anne Hathaway. Cool Tones
Complimenary colours
Jewel tones make a cool complexion look healthy and vibrant.

Wearing warm tones when you have a cool undertone can make you look yellow and sickly.

Day 12 - Colours For Your Eyes

So we have explored a bit into your basic facial features including your eyes. Now comes the fun part. Here is a basic introduction to eyeshadows that will compliment your eye colour.

The colour theory suggests that the colours opposite each other in the colour wheel compliment each other. My eyes are brown and the colour directly opposite is blue. So the most complimentary eyeshadow colour for me is blue.

 Celebrities with eyeshadow

Green Eyes/ Purple shadow
Scarlett Johansen

Blue Eyes/ Peach Shadow
Kat Dennings

Grey eyes/ Lavender shadow
Aishwarya Rai

Hazel Eyes/  Plum and bronze
Mila Kunis

Brown Eyes/ Blue Eyeshadow
Jennifer Lopez

I hope you got some great inspiration for your eyeshadow colours to try next.

Day 11 - Body Shapes

There are many opinions on how many body shapes there really are. The famous Trinny and Susanna say there are 12 body types, these are very detailed. Im only going to go through the five basic body types.

Rectangle: Bust, waist and hips are generally around the same. This can make the bust look smaller with wider hips. This body shape usually doesn't have a defined waist and often has long legs.

Pear: These body shapes have wider hips and a smaller bust. This can mean that you have a defined waist but you will generally find that it tapers into the full hips. These body shapes can have a large bust but you will find that full hips are a stand out feature.

Hourglass: The shoulders, bust and hips are noticeable larger than your small waist. The waist should be noticible smaller than your hips and shoulders, if not then you probably have a rectangle body type.

Cone: The cone body shape has a large bust and shoulders that are wider than your slim waist and hips.

Diamond: This shape has a full figure with a broad waist, or her waist, top and bottom have the same circumference. Usually this figure will have a large bust and large hips and a curve at the waist too.

Celebrity Body Shapes

Rectangle
Gwyneth Paltrow

Pear
Alexis Bledel

Hourglass
Kelly Brook

Cone
Demi Moore

Diamond
Drew Barrymore

So did you figure out what your body shape is? What is it? I think mine is a pear.

Day 10 - Body Brushing

Your skin is the largest organ of your body, so it's important to take great care of it. Body Brushing is a method where you use a natural bristle brush to help eliminate toxins that have built up in the skin.

How Does it Work?

  • Just like your kidneys or liver, your skin is an organ that needs to be taken care of too. Dry skin brushing helps to keep the pores clear and the skin active helping with the cleansing process.
  • Inactive skin loses its ability to remove extra toxins. This places stress on other organs and your body in general.
  • Your body breathes and absorbs essential nutrients through the skin, body brushing will keep the skin clear of excess debris so its clear to breathe and absorbs nutrients into the body.
  • Dry body brushing is believed to stimulate the lymphatic system. The lymphs help to move toxins through the body. It also helped with the strength of the bodies immune system by producing certain white blood cells and some antibodies.

Benefits of Body Brushing:
  • Increases circulation
  • Stimulate lymphatic system
  • Exfoliates the skin
  • Reduces cellulite
  • Improve digestion and Kidney function
  • Energises and stimulates the body.

This picture shows the correct way to brush around the body.
Stroke the brush in one upward movement toward the major lymph nodes: the groin, underarms and base of the neck.
Use small circular strokes on your stomach in a clockwise direction, following the path of digestion. Work from left to right, this is the natural way of massaging the body.
Try body brushing for 3-5 minutes a day.

Day 9 - Basic Pedicure

Personally I always find it easier to do a pedicure on myself and I do the most simplest and quickest pedicure I can think of. Here is how I do a basic pedicure.

You will need:

  • Nail Polish Remover
  • Clippers and Nail File
  • Foot Bath
  • Cuticle Remover
  • Cuticle stick and trimmer
  • Foot brush and foot pumice ( I use a double sided one)
  • 2 in 1 base and top coat
  • Nail polish
  • Moisturiser

Remove any old nail polish
Clip and File your nails. File toenails straight across rounding off the edges to conform with the shape of the toe. Your may need a file with more grit for your toe nails as they are thicker than finger nails

Soak your feet in warm water for about five minutes. This will help make the skin softer for the next step.

Give your feet a light exfoliation with a pedi brush.

Remove any hard and old skin but gentle pumicing the area. If your do this step too rough the skin will become irritated and sore.

Rub some cuticle oil in and gently push back the cuticles with the cuticle pusher.
Slide the cuticle trimmer over the excess skin to cut it off.
Make sure you do this gently because too much trimming may cause cuts.

Wipe off any excess cuticle oil.
Apply a base coat and wait for it to dry.

Now apply your favourite nail polish. I used two coats.
Wait for each coat to dry before adding another.
Apply your top coat, this will give your pedicure lasting shine.
Finish off with a minty and refreshing foot moisturiser

Day 8 - Basic Manicure

There is something special about pampering your digits. Nice moisturised hands and cared for nails make me feel a lot neater. Here is a simple manicure in a step-by-step process to get your own perfect and polished hands.

What you will need:

  • Nail polish remover and cotton pads
  • Nail clippers (if your nails need a trim before you file them)
  • Emery board and buffer
  • Cuticle pusher and cuticle trimmer
  • Moisturiser
  • Cuticle oil
  •  2 in 1 base and top coat
  • Nail polish

Remove Nail polish with a non-acetone remover using a cotton pad
Trim and shape nails in your favourite nail shape. Avoid coarse emery boards to prevent splitting. Opt for a fine emery board or a crystal one.
Using  Warm water, soak your nails for about 3 minutes. Soaking is essential to making cuticle removal easier.

Apply a cuticle nourishing oil and massage it in for a minute.
Buff your nails using a brisk bask and forth motion to ensure an even surface. Don't buff too much though or the nail can be too smooth and the nail polish wont adhere to your nails and will slip off

Gently push the cuticle away from the nail using a pushing tool. Don't push too far as it may damage the nail or cause the skin to tear.

Very gently slide the cuticle trimmer over the pushed back cuticle. This will remove the excess skin and make your nails look generally neater. If done correctly this should be a painless procedure. Its better to under-do this step than over do it because the cuticle protects the nail from bacteria so don't be too rough.

Wipe off any remaining cuticle oil.
Moisturise your hands with a rich hand cream, your skin will love it!
Now apply a Base coat onto your nails. A base coat prevents nails from staining and chipping.

Nail polish from Sea siren Cosmetics in Seaduce

Apply your favourite nail polish in layers. I chose a glitter as the new year has just come in, this affect took about two coats.
Finish off with a top coat to add shine.

Give your hands another good moisturisin'.

This manicure took me about twenty minutes so its really quick and I tried to make it as simple as I could.
